Trip to Bhutan
Trip to Bhutan Overview
Trip to Bhutan
A sacred Buddhist shrine, Taktsang Lhakhang is nestled 800 meters above the valley floor, clinging to a black rock face. While walking along a wooded trail that winds through lush meadows, oak and rhododendron forests, and along a precipitous cliff, it is hard to believe that Bhutan’s only airport is merely a few kilometers away. It is said that Taktsang, the Tiger’s Lair, was founded when Guru Rinpoche, widely regarded as the second Buddha, arrived from Tibet on the back of a tigress in the 8th century. Using the religious cycle of the Kanye, he subjugated the Eight Categories of Evil Spirits, and thus converted the region to Buddhism. Numerous luminaries have meditated at this deeply spiritual site over the centuries, enriching the legacy of its founding master and strengthening belief in the Buddhist faith.
